PRECAUTIONS in SALAMBA SHRISHASANA or HEAD STAND
1. In shirshasana balance alone is not important. But
correct posture is very important, as faulty posture will lead to pains in head
, neck and back.
2. The whole weight of body should be on head only and not
on forearms and hands because hands and forearms are for support to check any
loss of balance.
3. The back of head, the trunk, the back of thighs and heels
should be in same line perpendicular to floor and not inclined to any one side.
The throat, chin and breast bone should be in one line otherwise head will tilt
to one side or move forward.
4. The elbows and shoulders should be in a line and the
elbows should not be widened.. The shoulders should be kept as high above the
floor as possible.
5. In going up or coming down or holding the head stand the
eyes should never become bloodshot. If they do so, the pose is faulty.
6. The time limit of this asana depends upon individual
capacity and your comfort level. So it can be anything from one minute to 15
minutes.
7. People with high blood pressure and females with
menstrual periods should not do upside down movement.
